MUSIC CATEGORIES || NECA Awards

  • Overall Artiste of the year – is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the Artiste with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the year under review. The Artiste(s) must have released at least a single/Ep/album which enjoyed a lot of patronage and generated the most excitement during the year under review.
  • Most popular song of the year – is the song adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the song widely accepted or favored which was released during the year under review, the song must have enjoyed a lot of patronage and generated the most excitement during the year.
  • Discovery Artiste of the year – is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the most promising and emerging talented Artiste(s). The award goes to new Artiste(s) who releases single/EP/album that established his/her public identity withing the year under review. The Artiste(s) must have not been recognized by any awards scheme before.
  • Best Vocalist of the year – is the Artiste adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the best vocal delivery/performance on a song or any musical performance which was released during the year under review.
  • Best collaboration song of the year – is the song adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as a song released through the collaboration of two (2) or more Artiste which has generated the most excitement during the year under review.
  • Best music video of the year – is the music video adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the most creative and entertaining music video released during the year under review. Note: The song for the video need not to be released during the year.
  • Best Rapper of the year – is the rapper adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public with the best words composition, rhymes and rap dexterity on a song(s) released during the year under review.
  • Album/EP of the year – is the album/EP adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as an outstanding album/EP released during the year under review.
  • Hiplife/Hip-pop Song of the year – is the song adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the song with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Hiplife/Hip-pop music genre. The song must have been released under the year of review.
  • Hiplife/Hip-pop Artiste of the year – is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Hiplife/Hip-pop music genre. The Artiste(s) must have released at least a hit single/Ep/album under the year of review.
  • Highlife Song of the year – is the song adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the song with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Highlife music genre. The song must have been released under the year of review.
  • Highlife Artiste of the year – is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Highlife music genre. The Artiste(s) must have released at least a hit single/Ep/album under the year of review.
  • Afro-pop Song of the year – is the song adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the song with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Afro-Beat/Afro-pop music genre. The song must have been released under the year of review.
  • Afro-pop Artiste of the year – is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Afro-pop music genre. The Artiste(s) must have released at least a hit single/Ep/album in the year under review.
  • Gospel Song of the year – is the song adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the song with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Gospel music genre. The song must have been released under the year of review.
  • Gospel Artiste of the year – is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Gospel music genre. The Artiste(s) must have released at least a hit single/Ep/album under the year of review.
  • Reggae/Dancehall song of the year – is the song adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the song with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Reggae/Dancehall music genre. The song must have been released under the year of review.
  • Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the year – is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Reggae/Dancehall music genre. The Artiste(s) must have released at least a hit single/Ep/album under the year of review.
  • Apprise Digital Artiste of the year– is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the Artiste(s) who best use digital platforms to promote/sell his/her craft (music) to the audience. The Artiste(s) must have his/her music distributed across the major music distribution channels through Apprise Music Distribution which has gained a lot of views/sales within the year under review.
  • Artiste of the Decade – is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the most relevant artiste(s) for the past ten (10) years. The Artiste(s) must have a couple of singles/Ep/albums which enjoyed a lot of patronages and generated the most excitement during the period as well as keeping his/her brand at a higher level.

Other ENTERTAINMENT CATEGORIES || NECA Awards

  • Event of the year – this is the event adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the entertainment event with the highest attendance, audience appeal, and well-organized. The event must have taken place under the year of review.
  • Event Organizers of the year – is the Event Organizers adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public for organizing entertainment event(s) that got the highest audience appeal, popularity, and well organized. That those event(s) must have taken place within the year under review.
  • Event Host/MC of the year – is the individual adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the best event host or MC during the year under review.
  • Best Sound Engineer of the year – is the sound engineer adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the engineer with the finest or most euphonic sound design, recording, mixing as well as mastering. The engineer must have a good number of tracks to his name under the year of review.
  • Best Actor of the year – is the actor adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the actor with an outstanding performance in a leading role that features in a movie released during the year of review.
  • Best Actress of the year – is the actress adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the actress with an outstanding performance in a leading role that features in a movie released during the year of review.
  • Best comedian of the year
  • Movie of the Year – is the movie adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the best movie of the year. The movie must have been released during the year and also gain much public recognition and attention.
  • Social Media Influencer of the year – is the person adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the individual who has used social media to impact or create a positive change for other individuals or brand(s). The person must have a lot of followers who during the year under review created content that attracts the most reactions.
  • Graphic Designer of the year – is the person adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the individual who best creates visual concepts/designs to communicate a piece of information, or promote a brand or project. The person must have done a lot of attractive designs within the year for brands, individuals, and organizations.
  • Blogger of the year – is the person adjudged by the Board, Academy, and the General Public as the individual who best regularly publish articles/content that inspire, educate, or entertain a large audience or promote other brands by using blog/websites. The person must have a lot of followers who during the year under review created content that attracts the most reactions.
